Range Regulations

Here are the specific regulations for the range you wish to shoot.


Hunter's Pistol Silhouette: Range Regulations
                          
  • Red range flag must be raised before any live fire commences or anyone goes down range.
  • All pistol calibers are allowed on this range.
  • All revolvers, semi-autos and single shot pistols may be used on this range. No bolt action firearms or any pistol firing centerfire rifle cartridges allowed.
  • This range can be utilized by informal and competitive shooters.
  • Practice 3/8" targets are available on the range for informal shooter use.
  • No silhouette targets are to be removed from this range.
  • All calibers of pistol ammunition may be purchased at Shotgun Facility.
  • Lower range flag when live fire is concluded and store.
Black Powder: Range Regulations
                          
  • Red range flag must be raised before any live fire commences or anyone goes down range.
  • This range may be used for informal or competition shooting.
  • Only black powder rifles and black powder pistols are allowed on this range.
  • Target frames and silhouette targets are available on the range for informal shooting.
  • No silhouette targets are to be removed from this range.
  • Lower range flag when live fire is concluded and store.
High Power Rifle: Range Regulations
                          
  • Red range flag must be raised before any live fire commences or anyone goes down range.
  • This range may be used for informal or competition shooting.
  • All calibers of high power rifle including Magnums are allowed on this range.
  • No armor piercing rounds may be fired on this range.
  • Target, target frames, spotters and pasters, etc. are available in the target shed.  
  • Replace targets, target frames, spotters and pasters, etc. upon completion of live fire session.
  • Lower range flag when live fire is concluded and store.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIRING ON THE HIGH POWER RIFLE RANGE
                          
  • These instructions are for all people and activities that use this range.
  • Raise the red flag and close the gate at the range entrance.
  • Shooting will be done on authorized targets only. Absolutely no plinking type shooting. Shooters must never shoot at objects on any firing line area.
  • Prior to any shooting, check the entire pit area and ascertain there are no other people in the pit area.
  • Vehicles that remain in the pit area during shooting must be parked beyond the target sheds bordering the targets in use.
  • When targets between all sheds plus the east and west areas are in use, no vehicle parking will be allowed in the pits.
  • When shooting is being conducted with one or more people pulling targets, radio communication must be maintained. If communication is lost all targets must be lowered all the way. All firing will cease and the firing line made safe until communication is re-established.
  • The NRA Whittington Center provides radios for match or other organized events. Unless special prior arrangements are made, individual practice shooters must provide their own radios. CAUTION: Lock carriers down before removing target frames
  • All people including pit officers will stay on the catwalk or in the communication building during firing.
  • Steel targets will never be used without prior arrangements with the Program Director. Authorized targets are paper gets on the 6 ft. Square frames only.
  • Target shed #1 (west building) is left unlocked.  We try to maintain a small number of each type of target, pasters and spotters for informal practice.  If you have special target requirements, contact the Program Director before changing any get face.
  • Target position restrictions: Black Powder and 50 Caliber BMG shooters are not allowed to fire on the following target positions: 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 85, 86, 87 and 88.  Conventional High Power rifle match shooters may use all positions except 43, 44, 45, 46 and 47.  However, 43 and 47 may be used for "hospital" targets.
  • If you need assistance or clarification on any of the above instructions, contact the Program Director.
Sight-In: Range Regulations
                          
  • Raise the red range flag prior to firing and going down range.
  • Shooting benches, sandbags and target frames are available for informal shooters use.
  • Any caliber rifle or pistol is allowed on this range. No military armor piercing or tracer rounds incendiary.
  • All ammunition except tracer or incendiary may be used on this range.
  • Sign-In targets are available for purchase at the gate.
  • Take down the range flag and store.
              
Small Bore Rifle: Range Regulations
                          
  • This range may be used by informal and competition small bore shooters.
  • This range is also for 4-H practice and military use. Military brings their own target frames.
  • Only .22 caliber bolt action target rifles are allowed on this range. Cartridges are limited for rimfire only.
  • Small bore rifle targets may be purchased for informal shooting purposes. Contact Programs Director.
  • Remove target frames and store under Ramada.
  • Lower range flag when live fire session is concluded.
High Power Rifle Silhouette: Range Regulations
                          
  • Red range flag must be raised before any live fire commences or anyone goes down range.
  • This range may be used for informal shooting or competition shooting.
  • Absolutely no Magnum class rifle or .22 centerfire are allowed on this range.
  • No belted Magnum or any cartridge with similar or greater power allowed.  
  • No full metal jacketed or armor piercing cartridges allowed.
  • Practice targets are available at this range for informal use.
  • Lower range flag when live fire is concluded and store.
Long Range Pistol Silhouette: Range Regulations
                          
  • Red range flag must be raised before any live fire commences or anyone goes down range.
  • This range may be used for informal shooting or competition shooting.      
  • All caliber pistols may be fired at this range.
  • No .22 centerfire cartridges or belted Magnum cartridges are allowed on this range.
  • Practice targets are available on the range for informal use.
  • No targets are to be removed from the range.
  • Lower range flag when live fire is concluded and store.
Practical Police Combat: Range Regulations
                          
  • Red range flag must be raised before any live fire commences or anyone goes down range.
  • This range may be used for informal shooting or competition shooting.
  • All caliber pistols may be fired at this range.
  • No .22 centerfire cartridges or belted Magnum cartridges are allowed on this range.
  • Only rimfire rifle cartridges may be fired at this range (Cowboy Match).
  • Practice targets are available on the range for informal use.
  • No targets are to be removed from the range.
  • Lower range flag when live fire is concluded and store.
  • Use of the Practical Police Combat Range is limited to law enforcement personnel only unless approved by the Director.
Small Bore Rifle Silhouette: Range Regulations
                          
  • Red range flag must be raised before any live fire commences or anyone goes down range.
  • No silhouette targets are to be removed.
  • This range may be used for informal shooting or competition small bore shooters.
  • This range is also for 4-H practice and military use. Military brings their own target frames.

Practical Pistol Course Requirements

PPI Course Requirements

What you will need (packing list is for each individual course):

  • Sidearm (semi-automatic or revolver)
  • 3 magazines/speed loader minimum
  • 500 rounds ammunition (NOTE: No Handloaded Ammunition Accepted in the Course)
  • Holster (Open or Concealed) (NOTE: No pocket holsters)
  • Sturdy Belt
  • Hearing Protection
  • Eye Protection
  • Sunscreen
  • 100 oz Water per day

PPII Course Requirements

Same requirements as PPI (see above). Plus:

  • Knee Pads
  • Elbow Pads

PPIII Course Requirements

Same requirements as PPI and PPII (see above). Plus:

  • Flashlight (Mounted or Unmounted – or both)
